SAPS Overview

Substance Abuse Prevention Services

The Department of Substance Abuse Prevention Services (SAPS) Conducts and assists intervention, treatment and recovery services throughout Kentucky for Adolescents and Adults. We have four main areas of assistance:

Screening and Assessment Services:
The department Administers and Clinically interprets drug and alcohol screens and assessments for Adolescents and Adults. Cost effective and reliable, the tests are brief, accurate and provide essential insight into the appropriate type of service needed.

Prevention Library and Resource Center:
The Prevention Resource Library has over 75 DVD curriculum titles, and numerous free substance abuse prevention education printed materials. The library is accessible to the public but must be by appointment.

Professional Training:
The department conducts numerous workshops throughout the year on a variety of substance abuse related topics. Our community partners include Drug Courts, Regional Prevention Centers, Early Intervention Programs, Residential Treatment Centers, State and Local government agencies and Schools and Churches.

Adult and Adolescent Substance Abuse Therapeutic Education programs:
The department conducts numerous Therapeutic Education programs. For Adults we offer the Cooper-Clayton smoking cessation program and the Prime For Life program. For Adolescents we conduct Cannabis Youth Treatment and The SIGNALS Program.
The SIGNALS program of The Methodist Home won a 2007 federal project award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Only 25 programs in the nation received this project award.
